Website: https://www.foxweather.com/
Problem: Fox Corp has seen the success of various dedicated weather websites such as weather.com and accuweather.com. When users came to Foxnews.com there was no weather information whatsoever, so if users wanted to get information about the weather in their area they would have to leave Foxnews.com and go to a weather dedicated website. So, the decision was made to come up with a brand new site under Fox called Fox Weather.
Hypothesis: If we create a new website dedicated solely to weather, we could engage our users with up to the minute weather data and weather related articles. In addition to that, if we created a link from Foxnews.com to Foxweather.com, we could continue to keep customers in the Fox hemisphere therefore increasing time spent, articles read, videos watched and ad revenue.
Solution: The project kicked off in March 2020. I worked very closely with the EVP and VP of Fox News Digital, along with the head of Creative and began iterating on the designs.
The Project: Once designs were approved by upper management and stakeholders in Editorial, I began writing epics and stories in JIRA and teamed up very closely with my Technical Requirements Manager (TRM), Developers, QA to ensure clarity and understanding of each feature and the requirements. I also worked with SEO and BI to ensure every element is tagged.
Platforms: The website went live on desktop and mobile web. The app portion was completed by a third party vendor.
Results: The website went live in December of 2021 and has been a huge success with ~50.2M homepage views per week. With continued enhancements and improvements, the site is beginning to compete on a level playing field as weather.com and accuweather.com.
